In 1864, the Rostock distiller and young businessman Conrad Lehment refined this traditional recipe for double caraway schnapps and began making it. The distillery Lehment purchased to this end in Rostock is still considered the birthplace of Original Lehment Rostock Doppel-Kümmel. The energetic founder Conrad Lehment and his son Ernst Lehment quickly recognized the potential and made Original Lehment Rostocker Doppel-Kümmel famous in their area and beyond. The blue-capped bottles with the farming couple “Mann un Fru” began their journey through Germany. To this today, Original Lehment Rostocker Doppel-Kümmel is still produced according to Conrad Lehment’s original recipe. In addition to Original Lehment Rostocker Doppel-Kümmel, the range also includes Original Lehment Rostocker Aquavit and Original Lehment Rostocker Liqueur with star anise. What has not changed are Mann un Fru, who still appear in their historical Hanseatic attire as the unmistakable trademark for Original Lehment Rostocker products.
Just like the brand, the toast is also unmistakable:
"Wat trink wi nu? Mann un Fru!" (In Low German: “What do we drink now? Mann un Fru!”)
- caraway seed
- aquavit
- liqueur
